NNMMC exam of newbornThe Northern New Mexico Midwifery Center accepts interns who join the practice in an observational role. Interns may be individuals who are considering midwifery as a profession and would like to observe what the day-to-day practice is like in order to help them with their decision. They also may have had training as a midwife and would like to gain a new perspective by observing a practice that is different than the one they have trained in.

We have had several interns who were in the midst of or had completed their training as nurse-midwives and felt the need for exposure to out of hospital birth, which they did not receive through their own schooling. Interns do not necessarily obtain clinical skills or count “numbers” towards licensure but they gain a well-rounded view of what it means to work within the midwives model of care.
